About Us
Hi, I'm Ed Waters, I've created Paradise Psychlery to bring affordable and accessible bike service and repair to the community surrounding Eagle Creek Oregon.
With a full service mobile bike shop I come to you, home, work, even at your recreational sites within 40 miles.
As a recent graduate of UBI I have been trained in complete bike repairs based on frame up build, wheel building and truing, basic bike fitting.
I have been riding bikes, road, mountain, trail, raced CX and XC fo about 15 years, I got started due to, like many, health concerns, high BP and over weight, my choice was get off your ass and do something or die!
Salads and treadmills don't work for me, needing active exercise, I took my old 2 sizes too small mountain bike off the ceiling hook, I think the wheel was oval from hanging so long, pumped up the tires and squeaked and rattled my way up the hill past my goal and all the way to the highway, 2 miles, I'm glad it was down hill most of the way back home. I felt like a kid again, the next day I rode 4 miles, then 10 with another hill.
I bought another bike, a Surly Cross Check and rode as much as I could, eventually I came across cyclocross racing and entered my first race, it was the most brutal and painful experience I have ever loved, I finished second to last that day, just edging out the guy recovering from heart valve replacement. I raced for 9 years (till COVID) pretty much for last the whole time, I bought more race bikes and worked on them, overhauled them, modified them and became fascinated by the machines, being a mechanic, the transition bike repair was fairly natural as far as the nuts and bolts of it all but bikes have so much complexity it can be impossible for a consumer to understand the intricacies of modern bicycles
Even though I was a 50 year old fat guy racing for last place, the CX fans and racers cheered, it didn't matter who you are or what you ride, as long as you are out there giving every last breath and not watching from the couch, you are the hero.
The fans, most of whom are upper level racers, offer encouragement and instruction, especially to the novices, as a novice or new rider anywhere, bikes have become more and more complex and constantly moving forward, all this new technology can become overwhelming and hard to understand.
Here at Paradise Psychlery, I want to try to demystify all the hype and confusion about what your bike needs to be for you.
Like any pretty shiny thing, the manufacturers need to sell more pretty shiny things, so they change things, add fancy gizmatry and tell you that you need it.
I can't tell you whether you need it or not, but I will help find the best solution for your psychling needs whether it be upgrading your older bike to get you to want to ride it, or help decide what bike best suits your needs, if you're not happy or comfortable on your bike, you probably are not going to ride it.
Cycling saved my life, I lost 50 pounds, lowered my BP, gained strength, gained respect by my peers, not by my trophy count, but by the sweat on my brow, They say the road to better health is a lifestyle change, it's not a fad or a trendy diet, it is the day to every frikkin day to choose to be the best you that you can be. Yes it is hard, I struggle every day myself, but consider the alternative of swallowing half a pharmacy every day, heartburn, anxiety, pain and atrophy. Cycling as low impact on your body, gets your blood and endorphins flowing, clears your mind and brings on a zen-like mindset, clearing your body , mind, and spirit of negative energy.
